In-person tour & online presentation

Any questions, please contact: ktp@port.ac.uk

Perfect for organisations pushing the boundaries of human performance and sport innovation, this event showcases our extensive facilities within our School of Psychology, Sport & Health Sciences, such as our Extreme Environments and Psychophysiology Laboratories.

You’ll learn how you can access these incredible facilities and work with us to overcome your next business challenge, supported by the Knowledge Transfer Partnerships (KTP) scheme. With a KTP we’ll work with you to develop a one to three-year project that provides a dedicated associate, access to our facilities and is up to 75% funded.

Previous KTP projects have helped organisations to launch new products and services, develop new capabilities and new processes to increase productivity.

Event information

For the September instalment of the Innovate & Elevate series, we will be hosting an in-person event to coincide with our monthly online forum. The in-person portion of the day will be an opportunity to meet the leading experts in Extreme Environment and Human Physiology and tour our extensive facilities within our School of Psychology, Sport & Health Sciences.

This will begin with a presentation led by Dr Ant Shepherd and Dr Joe Costello, which will be streamed to our online audience. Here you can learn more about the research and projects within the School, and find out more about the Knowledge Transfer Partnership programme.

The afternoon will then continue with a tour of the facilities. Our unique facilities and specialist equipment includes our Extreme Environments and Psychophysiology Laboratories, eye tracking technology, thermal cameras, sport and human performance testing unit, and sport bra testing unit.

The day will conclude with some time for networking and connecting with our academics and KTP team at the Ç¿¼éÊÓƵ.

Presenters

Dr Ant Shepherd

Ant’s research career focuses on using novel interventions (for example; nutrition or extreme environments) to improve metabolic and cardiovascular health, quality of life and physical function. Ultimately, his research revolves around patient benefit. He is also interested in understanding the pathophysiology of specific chronic diseases in order to elucidate any potential therapeutic strategies.

Dr Joe Costello

Joe is currently the Associate Head of Research and Innovation in the School of Sport, Health and Exercise Science. Joe’s primary research interests are directed toward understanding the physiological effects of various stressors (e.g. heat, cold, and hypoxia) on human performance. He has a particular interest in exploring the mechanisms responsible for a decrement in performance, both physical and cognitive, following exposure to these extreme environments.
