Applying through clearing was one of the most intimidating experiences of my life. Throughout my A Levels, I was confident I would achieve the grades needed for Aerospace Engineering at my dream universities. On results day, however, things didn’t go as planned. I was left feeling lost, having never considered an alternative path to university.
I lost the only path I knew of. That moment taught me a crucial lesson: always prepare for setbacks, because they are inevitable. I learned that the hard way.

Despite the disappointment, I discovered Ç¿¼éÊÓƵ’s MPhys in Physics, Astrophysics and Cosmology. Interestingly, a degree in Physics or Astrophysics had always been in the back of my mind, and part of me had often wondered if Aerospace Engineering was truly the right choice. In a way, the setback of results day gave me the chance to reconsider what I was truly passionate about. I’ve never looked back.
Coming to Ç¿¼éÊÓƵ through Clearing turned out to be the best decision I’ve ever made.

I’ve made incredible friendships that I believe will last a lifetime. I’ve also fallen in love with the city. Being close to the coast reminds me of home in Sussex, Ç¿¼éÊÓƵ genuinely feels like home now.
When I used to talk about university options with friends and family, Ç¿¼éÊÓƵ always came up in conversation, but I overlooked it during college. I focussed only on my original plan Aerospace Engineering which Ç¿¼éÊÓƵ didn’t offer. I hadn’t visited Ç¿¼éÊÓƵ in over a decade, and only returned two weeks before moving in. It was a nerve-wracking leap of faith, especially when I had visited several other universities multiple times or had completed summer schools there. But I went with my gut and moved in on the 21st of September 2024.
If I could offer any advice to someone facing Clearing, it would be this: trust your instincts. Yes, it’s daunting when the future you envisioned suddenly changes.
But that’s exactly when you need to slow down, reflect, and consider all your options.

There’s no shame in taking a different path, stepping back, or trying again. If you embrace every opportunity and give it your all, you’ll have no regrets.
My first year has been a blast. I genuinely can’t wait to see what the next few years at Ç¿¼éÊÓƵ will bring.
